Autumn/Winter 2017

Fashion Report

Akiko Aoki established her brand AKIKOAOKI in 2014. She describes it as feminine with a nostalgic note, which is perfectly embodied in this season. In fact, her A/W 2017 collection composes of a variety of dresses, inspired by 20s, 40s and 80s.

20s are represented by beautiful pleats, lowered waistline and the fabrics used include colorful flowing silks, velours and clean white cottons.

40s are mainly noticeable in perfectly visualized slim waists as well as in tweed and checked fabrics. Cuts are very suit-like as it was a difficult war time and fashion accustomed to more utilitarian lifestyle working women.

80s can be seen in playfulness of colors and extravagant lightweight tulles. Those looks are also braver in exposing body parts.

Finally, Akiko puts a lot of attention to sleeves. They are well sculptured and can be folded in various ways, reminding us a bit of origami.
